BED & BREAKFAST

You don’t have to be on retreat to stay at St. Katharine’s.  If you are looking for something a little different – a house with an interesting history, where some of your favourite TV series have been filmed (we have appeared in Midsomer Murders, New Tricks, Lewis and Endeavour among others) then we are just the place for you!

We have limited availability at weekends but we often have rooms available on weeknights.  BedroomOur rooms are spacious and comfortable and all double and twin rooms have ensuite bathrooms.  There are tea and coffee making facilities in the rooms and towels and hand-soap are provided. However you have to appreciate that we are primarily a retreat house, not a hotel, so there are no TVs or phones in the bedrooms and although most staff live in the building you may not always be able to find someone ‘on duty’.   We do make some concessions to the 21st Century – there is free wi-fi throughout the house, but mobile phone coverage is patchy, however there is a payphone available for guests in the Entrance Hall.  We should also mention that we do not take card payments – cash or cheques only.

So why come to St. Katharine’s?  Well, apart from our interesting history etc. and our ridiculously low prices (£35 per person sharing, £55 per person single occupancy), you will be able to soak in the ambience of a Victorian country house, relax in what was once King Zog of Albania’s private study (you can even dine in there if you wish), or just gaze out of the windows at our beautiful grounds, where you will almost certainly see some Red Kites circling, not to mention deer at dusk munching on our flowerbeds and numerous other examples of wildlife.  There are several good walks in the vicinity and we can give directions. You will get an excellent full English breakfast and if you want dinner we can usually provide that too.  We do not have a licence but you are welcome to bring your own alcoholic drinks (so that will save you some money too).  If you want to dine out then there are lots of excellent pubs and restaurants in the vicinity, but not within walking distance at night (no footpaths or street lights).

Make your stay even more relaxing by booking a treatment. Debbie Lawrence, a Holistic Therapist who has a clinic in Marlow, can be booked for therapy sessions at St. Katharine’s.  These include Aromatherapy, Indian Head Massage, Full Body Massage and Hopi Ear Candling.  For more information click here

If you would like to spend some free time walking in the vicinity we can lend you walking maps or if you are not familiar with the area you might consider a guided walk with Anthea, a local nordic walking instructor. For more information see her website A Foot in the Chilterns.

There is lots to SEE and DO in the Chilterns and if you want to make your break a little bit out of the ordinary then you should definitely stay at St. Katharine’s.
