House not big enough to squeeze in all your family and friends for that special occasion? Village Hall a bit institutional for your family event? Want to host a special dinner party but can’t face the cooking, let alone the washing-up? Then let St. Katharine’s do it all for you and entertain your guests in the gracious atmosphere and surroundings of a Victorian country house.
Our cook, Jo Hartley, provides superb food for our regular guests but she is never happier than when she is called upon to use her flair and skill to provide something special. From afternoon tea for 50 for an eightieth birthday party to a fine-dining dinner party for half a dozen important clients, Jo will provide a fabulous meal.
You can choose where to entertain your guests – you don’t have to eat in the dining room. For example afternoon tea with your family could be taken in the Blue Sitting Room, like a larger version of your own lounge with comfy sofas and possibly a better view out of the window (well, do you have a 500 year-old cedar tree in your back garden?). For a special dinner party for up to 10 of your family, friends or clients you could use the libraries: dine in the First Library surrounded by books and oodles of atmosphere, then move into the Inner Library for after-dinner coffee and drinks, reminding your guests that this room has seen many famous figures from the past when Lord Parmoor was working on setting up the League of Nations and then later became King Zog of Albania’s private study. A dinner party for more than 10 would probably be best taken in the Blue Room where we can remove the sofas and set up a formal dinner table. You could then use the Green Sitting Room next door to relax. Larger parties can use the Dining Room or Main Hall which can be arranged to suit you.
One of the great advantages of using St. Katharine’s for private functions is that you really will feel private. Our staff are adept at being unobtrusive and if there are other guests in the house you will hardly be aware of them, the rooms that you use will be exclusively yours, it will feel just like your own home (but there will be no washing-up when they’ve all gone). Another advantage for you is that we do not have a Licence to sell alcohol but we are quite happy for you to provide your own alcoholic drinks. So you can treat your guests to something special from your own cellar or purchase just the right wines to accompany your meal without having to worry about 300% mark-ups. However, if you want to sell drinks to your guests you will have to obtain a Temporary Event Licence from Wycombe District Council. We do not have any set menus, you can plan your meal with the cook and choose according to your own taste, requirements and budget.
